Kick off the long weekend at the U.S. National Whitewater Center’s Labor Day Celebration. Events include The Dry Tri, which is a 1.25-meter paddle, an 8-mile mountain bike ride, and a 5-mile run, the Aqua Rock Deep Water Solo Climbing Competition, which is a rock climbing competition on walls up to 45 feet over a 20-foot deep pool, and more. OPA! Take a trip to Dilworth’s version of Greece at this year’s Yiasou Greek Festival, held at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 600 East Blvd. Try some baklava, stroll through the Hellenic cultural exhibits, and enjoy traditional Greek folk dancing presented by the children of the Holy Trinity community. The festival commences at 11 a.m. on Sept. 6. Admission is $3, and children ages 12 and under with a parent or guardian can attend for free. yiasoufestival.org

The 54th annual Festival in the Park is finally here, and it is bringing new art and fresh music to Freedom Park, 1900 East Blvd. Admission to the festival is free all three days, so take your time checking out original work created by artists from around the country. Feel young again and get your face painted. Spend your evening sitting back and relaxing to great music performed by a variety of bands. Enjoy a chef and farmer pairing, presented by Piedmont Culinary Guild and the Center for Environmental Farming Systems, at the Farm to Fork Picnic in the Garden, held from 4-7 p.m. at Belmont’s Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, 6500 S. New Hope Road. Guests can enjoy live music, stroll through the gardens, listen to speakers, and, of course, eat and drink.
