Wrap up the summer with Movies Under the Stars. Every Friday in August, starting Aug. 4, bring the whole family to Symphony Park for a free outdoor show. The fun starts at 7 p.m. with food and refreshments available for purchase. The movies for August are “Trolls,” “Secret Life of Pets,” and “Sing.” The last movie will be decided with a fan vote.

Celebrate your love of locally produced films and support a great cause when you attend the eighth-annual Joedance Film Festival. Held in the courtyard of the 10th Street Townhomes in Charlotte’s Historic Fourth Ward, this festival’s proceeds benefit pediatric cancer research. Tickets are $25, and the event starts at 8 p.m. both nights.
At the 29th-annual Great Gatsby Gala you can enjoy live music, swing dancing, delicious food, craft cocktails, and a silent auction, all while wearing your finest Gatsby-inspired attire. Held at the Wells Fargo Atrium, the proceeds from this gala benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Greater Carolinas Chapter. Tickets are $75 per person and $150 for a VIP package.
Head to First Ward park for a night of live bluegrass and Americana music. This concert, part of the Live on the Green series, features Town Mountain and Jenni Lyn. Starting at 7 p.m., enjoy food trucks, craft beer, and live music for the perfect summer night. Free to attend.
The Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation department is hosting a free jazz concert in Freedom Park. Part of the Freedom Summer Series, this summer concert will be fun for the whole family. With food and drink vendors on standby, you can spend the evening relaxing in a lawn chair to the live music of Freeport Jazz and Nick Colionne.
