Word on the Chic

Luxury hair salon Drybar recently opened in the Specialty Shops SouthPark on Morrison Boulevard, and if you long for salon-worthy tresses without the cut and color, it’s time you treated yourself to one of the California-based chain’s signature blowouts. Drybar’s first North Carolina location offers eight styles named after classic cocktails, such as the Manhattan (sleek and smooth), the Mai Tai (messy, beachy hair), and the Old Fashioned (Old Hollywood waves). All blowouts cost $45, but Drybar offers other services as well, such as extensions and scalp massages.

While Charlotte is home to several other blowout bars—there’s Blo Blow Dry Bar on Selwyn Avenue, 1890 Blow Dry Bar in Ballantyne, and The Daily Details in Uptown—Drybar is the nation’s most popular name in the space, with more than 70 locations in the U.S. and Canada. Longtime Charlotteans may even recognize the woman behind the new SouthPark hotspot: owner Jackie Kallam Paynter is the daughter of Jim Kallam, the longtime senior pastor of Church at Charlotte on Carmel Road. 6401 Morrison Blvd., 704-749-2159.
